Success comes from the Teaching of Masterful Coaches

I just arrived into St. Petersburg Russia…

I haven’t been here in over twenty years…since I played hockey here in high school!

Wow things have changed!

I had an amazing day today…I had the great fortune to speak with an amazing Sambo coach today…Alex Barakov.  Sambo is a fairly new martial art that has become a sport in Russia.  It was developed for the military and special forces and is now widely used as a self defense system.

And I wanted to share with you some of my observations…

This particular individual is gifted at what he does…Not only does he have a passion for teaching others how to improve their specific skill in Sambo he teaches them about life…Being good in Sambo is not good enough for this Master.  He strives to teach his students about higher purpose, integrity, character, self-discipline, and love!

To watch this individual demonstrate the techniques is awe inspiring…he makes it look so simple!  And you know you are in the midst of a master when he makes you think…I could do that!

And why is that?

Simplicity…

Masters are able to communicate their ideas in such a simple way that anyone can get it!  They don’t try and convince you that they know what they are talking about by using big words, talking over your head, or showing off…they want you to get it!  And because they understand the material so completely they are able to break it down into its most basic form…they do what they do in such a simple way that their mastery shines through.

Physically, they are able to move in such ease because they have spent the hours of repetition perfecting a movement so that their body can perform that movement without thinking and with very little effort - because they have become so efficient at that specific movement!

All great performers understand this concept…In order to be great you must put in the time perfecting your abilities!
